Communication with God

Luke 11:1 "Lord, teach us to pray."

There are many aspects of prayer. Prayer in its simplest form is communication; a two-way exchange of information and ideas between God and His people. It is interesting that in the first record or account of communication found in Genesis 1:28, it was God who initiated it. This speaks to us about the importance of listening to Him. Hearing God must be at least as important as our bringing our requests, concerns, confessions, or even our praise and adoration before Him. You will also notice that in the account of Adam and Eve, they not only communicated with God, but also with the fallen angel, Satan. It is important for us to understand that God and Satan both speak. Friends, if we are to be effective in our praying, we must be able to discern between the two voices. Effective prayers are based on what God has said. Prayer may be hindered if we listen to what Satan says. Listening to the enemy's voice can throw up a "communication barrier" when we pray. That barrier will lead to a breakdown in faith.

I encourage you this week to build your faith by knowing what God says about your circumstances, situation, and present needs. Tune the enemy of your soul out. Tune into the voice of the Spirit of God. He is speaking. Are we listening? Be still and know that He is God.

Lord, help us to walk in faith in our prayer life. Give us discernment and an ear to hear Your voice. We silence the enemy in the Name of Jesus! We ask You to break down any and every barrier that would hinder our communication with You in any way, Lord. Your word says that the prayers of a righteous man are powerful and effective (James 5:16). Yes, Lord, there is power in our prayers!
